While Christie may have been the most recognizable Golden Age author, another writer at the time was also helping to define the genre. The sister’s despondency and Rat’s disgust combine to make the reader’s stomach believe. Nearby is a ‘bronze statue of a Boer general on a warhorse. It deals with possessing aliens who arrive to witness mankind's demise. In a human colony on one of a series of planets connected by wormholes, a young man who suffers from a series of physical disabilities (the result of an assassination attempt on his royal parents) grows up to become a powerful military leader. Given all that, it is perhaps surprising that Mercure itself did not publish more speculative fiction after 1903, and the omission suggests that a significant fraction of the magazine’s readership must have protested against it.

Romance can be  broadly divided into catogory (series) and stand-alone (single  title). How do you think it might have been different if another character was telling the story? So your mother took a very practical attitude toward writing. While larger organizations like the OTW facilitate these sorts of debate, micro-debates happen within fandoms on a regular basis, and I think authorial intent and self-definition can very easily become less important than reception and interpretation (although we can all agree that the lines are often blurred, and that mode of writing is woefully inadequate for such clarity).
