Examples are the fractional quantum Hall effect and high temperature superconductivity. The polycrystalline nature of these organic nanostructures makes them inferior to their inorganic counterparts, since the latter are highly crystalline and in many cases the whole 1D structure is a single crystal. Scientists at GE are working to harness this property to make hypersensitive thermal imaging sensors, useful for night vision. We have observed methylene blue decolorized under aerobic conditions for irradiation at 390 and 540 nm at a pH of 7 and for various neat and Pd-seeded-Ti-O-N catalysts.
